#Emptys

LATEST: #EMPTYGALLERIANAZIONALE 12 DECEMBER 2016

There is nothing like having an empty to museum all to yourself, and even better, sharing the experience with inspiring people all over the world.  Originally started as #EmptyMuseo, every Empty we host is a volunteer project of love . . . for art, museums, Instagram, Italy and cultural heritage. Since 2014, Darius Arya and I have been collaborating with Italy’s Ministry of Culture to bring museums to you and you to museums, by way of your smart phone– and hopefully get you through the door, virtually and physically.  We’ve  hosted “empty” event in Rome and Milan, at world recognized museums  La Galleria Nazionale, La Triennale and Galleria di Arte Moderna GAM, and had the privilege of bringing you into a very special closed-door visit to the Vatican Museums.

Together, Darius and I select passionate Instagrammers who love art, photography, food, fashion, music, tech, culture, and socializing to celebrate Italy’s beautiful cultural institutions.  We also help define hashtags and promotion.  Yes, we are really there- whether an early morning Vatican visit or an all day GAM.  Our sole purpose is to show the beautify found in Italian museums and hopefully inspire you to visit these museums in person.  If you want to join, all you have to do is send us an email!

In September 2016, I was invited by La Galleria Nazionale and the Ministry of Culture to co-host bi-monthly #EmptyLaGalleriaNazionale events.   The October 2016 empty focused Time is Out of Joint ,director Cristina Collu’s radical overhaul of the galleria -amazing renovation of the permanent collection from its historic chronological curation to an exhibition that overlaps time and genres, no longer caught in themes nor sequential eras.  Whereas most Emptys are invite only,  the December 12, 2016 empty was an open call event, gathering more than 100 requests for 15 spots.

On December 11 and October 26, 2015, we were inside the Vatican for the historic #EmptyVatican which brought exposure to the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums, an organization focused on bringing together restoration projects and donors within the walls of the museums, as well as bringing the art to the public with its free app Patrum. With just 10 photographers, #EmptyVatican increased followers by more than 35% and brought the Vatican Museums and Vatican Patrons to the fore front of international press- as seen and written about in La Repubblica, The Guardian, Condè Nast Traveler, Condè Nast Traveller India, Swide, Lonely Planet, Catholic Herald… and more.
